Controls Technician

Responsible for installing, servicing and repairing electrical equipment with hand tools, test equipment, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications in a timely, accurate manner by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Installs, diagnoses, services and repairs electrical equipment.

  2. Assist panel shop personnel in design interpretation to build electrical and pneumatic control panels and enclosures.

  3. Install and integrate control equipment at customer locations.

  4. Assist in designing control systems with engineering.

  5. Provide control system commissioning, start-up and troubleshooting to include replacing worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, motors and defective wiring, etc.

  6. Apply working knowledge of PLC programming, human machine interface (HMI) programming and variable frequency drives.

  7. Orders additional parts for repairs and schedules return service calls according to the individual parts scheduling report as needed.

  8. Completes and submits service documentation each day with the relevant service/billing information.

  9. Maintains a professional manner to enhance the company's image with customers.

  10. Determines and explains nature/cost of repairs to customers in a clear manner to avoid miscommunication, and review service orders with customers for signature approval.

  11. Returns customer units to original state and cleans up work area prior to leaving each job.

  12. Attends and participates in technical meetings.

  13. Conducts emergency service calls as needed.

  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent; and at least 2 year Engineering Degree. Minimum of 2 year electrical experience required.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet software, and manufacturing software. Be able to apply working knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD Electrical)
